The Rose Parade theme for this year was “Building Dreams, Friendships & Memories”. It was a grand time for those who braved the elements (cold) to watch the parade. We personally met folks that spent a couple of days on the cold pavement to save a spot to watch the parade tradition for the first time… live. Our seats along the parade route were graciously given to us from 2 families that did just that. One of the families have a young daughter whose birthday was today. A young man prompted everyone in the vicinity to join in for a loud and joyous chorus of Happy Birthday. Needless to say the young lady was very surprised, and from the red smile on her face we knew it warmed her spirit to have all of us help celebrate her very special day. The clear weather turned up a nice sunny day for all of us, bringing in a typical New Year’s Day in Southern California fashion. I believe we were the envy of the nation if not the world.
Seven band members from Santiago High School were in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade honor band. Of the seven 2 were in the Herald Trumpets that lead the Tournament of Roses Parade Queen’s float. Way to go gang you did a great job! Hopefully the pictures submitted to the Press Enterprise will make the morning papers.
